Only 37 days to go!

Time is ticking… WHERE DID THE TIME GO!?

Oh, it’s right here, marked off in nifty little check marks all the way down this huge “TO DO” list that every bride has constantly in their possession. (Also, this is my excuse for not making any updates- I forgot to add them onto my “To do” list! – Ooops!)

So many check marks!

At this point we are down to the details portion of the planning. So I guess, technically, we are in the DOING stages. While all the big decisions have been made (Who to do the catering? What dress to wear? Who should I marry?), it’s all the itty-bitty-nitty-gritty details that are still begging to be checked off. But it is all those little details that will add to the wonderful memories of the day.

Chris and I are really excited about the ever-so-closer BIG DAY! and even more excited that we will be sharing it with such wonderful people.

On that note, I must cut this short. I have a list to go check off.

Chris wishes to remind you: It’s not stalking if she says, “yes”.

While the origins of Chris and my first meeting as friends are obscured by time in the tomes of history and lack of popular social media (see: Senior year of College), there is documentation of us reconnecting and beginning our time as a couple.

On the morning of August 25th, 2011, I awoke to a message in my inbox from a certain gentleman with a certain query: Might I be interested in joining this gentleman to his friends wedding being held up in Asheville, NC in October?

The invitation intrigued me, for not only did be quote David Bowie within the request, but he spoke of wondrous things such as magic chairs that fly at ludicrous speeds. But before responding to his message, I had to check out a few things first, as any sensible lady would when invited out on a date (500 miles away.) My first call was to Erin, who is friends with both myself and this gentleman suitor, to verify that he was “on the up and up” so to speak. (See: Has not turned into an axe-murderer, as she was aware of.)

Her response: “If you do not go out with him, I will never speak to you again.”

Needless to say, she vouched for him fully.  So I conveyed my interest in joining him on this Asheville adventure, and asked a few important questions of my own. While ludicrous is a perfectly acceptable speed, one would want to make sure there was little to no chance of finding oneself going to plaid!

My fears were allayed and we continued a back-and-forth of details and information. E-mails turned into text messages, text messages into long phone calls, and phone calls into hours on Skype.  I must say that modern technology was a huge assistance in Chris and my budding relationship.  We found ourselves sharing our day-to-day events with each other, and our not so day-to-day.

(Chris uses a camera to take a picture of him and his other camera.)

Chris takes a selfie during Urban Assault.

(The director teased me so much about all the texting Chris and I did)

Kate is doing theatre-y things with the All Shook Up set!

By the time I stepped off the plane and saw Chris in person for the first time in years, we had already reconnected as good friends through our many hours talking.  But now, we were starting the longest first date I have ever known. And it was a BLAST!

Location, Location, Location

Hey there, fellow wedding people!

Hope you have all have had a wonderful end of the year, and an even better beginning of 2014.  I am back on the “Wedding Wagon” as it were, and so I am back with DETAILS!

Yes, that’s right people, I have all the details about the things that you all want to know!

OK, maybe not ALL…. I have some…. OK, a few….

Some starter details? (I would hate to overwhelm you. Yep, that is it, I am being courteous and all that.)

First off, let me show off the venue: Homewood near downtown Asheville, NC.

It was the crenelations that got me. And the stone. And the fireplaces….

And here is where the ceremony will be:

That’s where the excitement happens! (You’ll have to show up to see what all the chairs are looking at, though)

(Ladies- Shoe check! There is a gravel path, and the seating area will be set up over grass)

It should be absolutely beautiful with the fall leaves.

OK, I know what you are REALLY interested in is lodging.

I’m not going to lie, lodging is a bit more difficult in in Asheville in the fall due to the leaf watching. It is pretty spectacular though (It was one reason we chose to have our wedding up there.) That said I would book early. There are a ton of wonderful Bed and Breakfasts near the venue and downtown that are going for similar or less than the hotel rooms. If that interests you, please go visit The Asheville Association of Legendary Inns or The Asheville Bed and Breakfast Association. Both sites are pretty easy to use, and you can check the bed availability of the different places online.

If the traditional hotel is more your speed, a good place you might want to start is Downtown Asheville, or the areas around it. There is also the option of renting a cabin or camping if you want to make an adventure of the weekend!

For those of you who are curious, I will be staying at the beautiful Carolina B&B.

Chris has yet to share details as to where he will be staying.  (As long as he shows up to the venue on time, right!)

Hope you all find just the right spot to lay your heads down!

(P.S. OK, I admit- the entire time I was writing this post, I was thinking how I could incorporate the album Lodgerby David Bowie into it. Alas, I failed, and so all you get is it postscript. You are all welcome.)

Hello world!

Welcome Friends and Family! We are so glad to have you join us on this exciting adventure. I’m sure you have a lot of questions and curiosity, so I will go ahead and satisfy the one that is probably niggling your brain RIGHT NOW:

Why “Bucket of Cornbread?”

The simple answer is, “Because we are Chris and Kate, and that is something that we would do!”

The slightly longer version of this answer goes like this:

You know how, as a new couple, people are always testing out pet names and nicknames for each other? Well, we were no different. Schnookums and CuddleBear are not entirely our style, however. Instead, I randomly called Chris “Bucket” one day (I blame the fact that he was going to or had just gone to a Buckethead show and the word was stuck in my head.) Chris responded by calling me “Cornbread” (I’m guessing his excuse was that he was looking at a piece of cornbread at the time. No idea… Chris?) Anyway- They both stuck until we figured something out that fit. (I’m not going to share those, but I do recommend reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.  Entertaining book. )

Anyway, during one of our many conversations over Skype, one of us commented, “We are a Bucket and Cornbread. A BUCKET OF CORNBREAD!”

See? Even Google was in on it!

See? Even Google was in on it!

So there you have it: Bucket of Cornbread. I hope that you all now are craving a giant bucket of cornbread. Perhaps your local BBQ joint has some. You should go check. Or make your own!

(Either way, I welcome pictures!)
